Ho Chi Minh City to Plan for APEC Summit 2006

In order to ensure security for the APEC Summit 2006 (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) in Ho Chi Minh City, the City People’s Committee has requested the police, the military and border guards to be on alert to any acts of sabotage by terrorists, as well as reactionary organizations.

They will also be in charge of public order during the time of the summit.

Ho Chi Minh City’s police will have to come up with detailed plans to maintain the traffic system functioning properly, particularly the routes from the airport to hotels, and the Summit's venues.

They also have to ensure the standard of fire preventions and safety measures in case of fires. Department of Security, which is responsible for public order, will establish patrol teams in Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 10, Binh Thanh and Tan Binh.

Relevant units and agencies will have to provide human resource and equipment to deal with any possible problems. APEC 2006 Summit will be officially held in Ha Noi from November 18 to 19, 2006.

Attending APEC Summit are leaders from 21 global economies. Four functions will be hosted in Ho Chi Minh City, including the 2nd APEC Seniors Officials Meeting, the Trade Minister’s Meeting, the 3rd APEC Business Forum, and the EXPORT 2006 Exhibition.
