42 Firms Win Vietnamese Brand Name Award

To honour leading companies in the country, the Vietnamese Brand Name award is selected by readers and presented annually by Sai Gon Giai Phong.
The latest awards, now in its fourth year, were presented in the event hall Gala Royale on February 8.

Each of the 42 award winners, from the economic, travel and service sectors, received a crystal trophy from senior officials of the party, government and agencies before a large audience of business people and reporters.

Among the presenters were the city’s Deputy Chairwoman of HCM City People’s Committee, Nguyen Thi Thu Ha.

The editor-in-chief of Sai Gon Giai Phong, Tran The Tuyen, said that the award received attention of businesses and customers although it is newly established. This year, customers were eager to choose businesses in spite of the economic downturn, showing their special interest in the award.

A survey revealed that 54percent of people make an annual tour, 36.2 percent occasionally travel. The number is higher than last year’s survey results, showing a positive sign for the country’s economy. Moreover, city residents spent more on their trips.
Launched from September, 2008 to January, 2009, the awards have received 7,862 votes. SGGP has carried out 1,000 interviews about Vietnamese brand names. It showed that clients still prefer the best quality trade names.

Tour operators won an award, including Saigontourist, Vietravel, Fiditour, Ben Thanh Tourist, Hoa Binh Tourist, SPSC Tour, Hoan My Tourist, TST Tourist, Viettours, VYC Travel.

Award wining hotels and restaurants: New World, Rex, Majestic, Ngon Eatery, the event hall Gala Royale, Liberty ( Tu Do) restaurant and Doi Xanh 2000 restaurant.

Vietnam Airlines is the most well-known airline

In the field of transport, Mai Linh taxi leads the list of favoured businesses, followed by Saigontourist taxi.

International groups are eyeing the Vietnamese retail market as it opens its markets in the beginning of the year. Famous commercial centers like Saigon Co.op, MaxiMark, Cho Lon and Thien Hoa Electronics Center, Parkson, Diamond Plaza, Tax, Zen Plaza,  also won awards.
