Cai Mep- Thi Vai welcomes laggest container ship to Vietnam

CMA CGM Marco Polo vessel yesterday docked at Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, becoming the biggest container ship ever to land in Vietnam .

It is a container ship owned by the CMA CGM group with a designed weight of 187,000 tons and loading capacity of 17,000 TEUs which directly transport Vietnam's import and export goods to the Northern European market.

On the occasion, the Cai Mep International Terminal has officially exploited as well as received weekly the other container ships as CMA CGM Marco Polo.

Cai Mep – Thi Vai deep-water port is one of the biggest sized terminals in the Southeast Asian region and is considered as a cargo transit hub. 

In May, 2018, the Maritime Administration of Ministry of Transport and Vietnam  allowed CMIT to receive up to 194,000-ton-vessels.

Up to now, CMA CGM Marco Polo has docked at the terminal weekly which affirmed that Cai Mep – Thi Vai port area could become a hub for Southeast Asia's cargo transit, especially the import and export goods of the Asia and Northern Europe trade routes.

In recent years, the growth rate of container goods through Cai Mep - Thi Vai port is very good.

In 2018, the volume of container cargo through these ports reached 2.87 million TEUs, an increase of 14 percent compared to 2017.
