Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai said Can Tho City should implement effective measures to curb smuggling and the production of fake goods and should ensure food hygiene and safety, especially during the lead-up to Tet (Lunar New Year) next month.

He made the statement while working with Mekong Delta city leaders on production and trade promotion and market stabilization on January 16.
Stocks of rice in the country have now reached 1.5 millions tons, which will ensure there is no scarcity or price surge of the grain during Tet, said Mr. Hai.
The same day, he visited contractors of the Can Tho Bridge and said they should try their best to ensure the bridge progresses on schedule.
With a host of infrastructure works being built including an airport, seaports, and bridges, DPM Hai said he hoped that Can Tho City would take the lead in the Mekong Delta’s economic development.
