Quang Ninh desires to construct special economic zones

An international seminar “Development of Special Economic Zones, Experiences and Opportunities” was held at Ha Long City with nearly 400 domestic and foreign delegates on March 20.

Establishment of economic zones has yet to reach objectives, said Deputy Chairwoman of National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. The Central Party Committee and National Assembly policies for development have been ineffective for over 20 years.

Most economic zones have not yet to attract modern foreign investors, said Head of the Central Economics Vuong Dinh Hue.

Most large-scale domestic investors are unable to compete for foreign investment, said Director of the Vietnam Institute of Economics Dr. Tran Dinh Thien. The zones only have small to medium-scale investors.

Places such as Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau are considered better places to build economic zones because of their strong economy, said Dr. Thien.

Quang Ninh desires to build Van Don Economic Zone due to a high potential for development, said Secretary of Quang Ninh Party Committee Pham Minh Chinh.
