According to the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of Ho Chi Minh City (HAWA), export turnover of wooden furniture might exceed US$4 billion this year.

In 2012, Vietnam will export wooden furniture not only to some neighbouring countries, but also tap other potential markets like China, India, and South America.

After a decline in exports for the past few years, export turnover to Japan had risen by 27 per cent in the last half of 2011, and expected to rise further this year due to urgent reconstruction demand after the tsunami and earthquake disasters in early 2011.

A survey conducted by HAWA in January showed that production costs of wood processing companies rose by 24 per cent, interest expenses surged by 2 per cent, while the selling price of their products only grew 5-7 per cent.
