Factory Makes Paper from Bamboo

Vinh Hue Paper Joint Stock Company has built a factory in the central highlands province of Dak Nong to manufacture pulp and paper from lo o bamboo, or Bambusa procera.

The project aims to reduce costs and prices, as well as compete with imported goods. The factory has a capacity of 3,000 tons of pulp and 2,000 tons of paper per year and cost an estimated VND4.6 billion (US$280,000).

The company will also plant bamboo in 200 hectares and cooperate with Quang Khe plantation to developing forest by recovering 8,000 hectares.

Vinh Hue’s exports have grown 23.4 percent in the first eight months of the year. The company exports tissue, napkin and spongy paper to the U.S, Singapore and Taiwan.
