Forty farming products imported from Cambodia will be granted duty-free status since September, says the Ministry of Trade.

However, rice and tobacco will be granted duty-free status in a limited quantity.

Around 30,000 tons of rice will be exempted from taxes in 2006. In 2007, this figure will increase to 100,000 tons. The duty-free quantity of imported rice for the 2008 will then be put on the negotiation table.

As well, 4000 tons of dried tobacco leaves imported from Cambodia will be tax-exempt in 2006 and 2007.

The export volume between Viet Nam and Cambodia has climbed to US$500 million since early 2006, a 42.3 percent increase year-on-year. This figure is expected to reach US$900 million by the end of 2006.
