Gold, dollar prices rise strongly

Domestic gold prices on Wednesday surged by VND270,000 a tael compared to late yesterday afternoon following a worldwide uptrend, while the greenback kept rising on the unofficial market. 

Saigon Jewelry Holding Co. (SJC) at 10:00 pam. Today quoted gold prices at VND36.63 million and VND36.70 million per tael for buying and selling respectively. A tael equals 1.2 troy ounces., Sacombank’s SBJ  bought and sold Thang Long Dragon gold at VND36.64 million and VND36.70 million a tael.

Meanwhile, Bao Tin Minh Chau Co. in Hanoi bought and sold Thang Long Dragon gold at VND36.68 million and VND36.78 million a tael.

In free market, most  shop owners said investors kept a “wait-and-see” attitude as they were afraid of sudden developments of the currency market and SJC prices are VND 36.65 and 36.75 (buying) and ( selling ).

Gold prices continued rising on the Asian market on 10 am today. In Hong Kong ( China ) market, the yellow metal is 1.373,2 USD/ounce (buying) and  1.373,9 USD/ounce (selling).

The central bank on Wednesday announced the interbank rate at VND 20.805 /USD (buying) and  VND 20.905 (selling). On the unofficial market, the dollar soared to VND 21.680 /USD and VND 21.750 for buying and selling respectively.
