Gold price hits all-time high

The domestic gold price September 17 peaked at a fresh all-time high of VND30 million (US$1,578) a tael (1.2 ounces).

The price was VND290,000 higher than the previous day and VND760,000 higher than early September.
 
Truong Cong Nhon, deputy head of Saigon Jewelry Joint Stock Company (SJC), Vietnam’s biggest gold dealer, said the price will continue to rise because it is currently VND130,000-150,000 lower than the global price.
 
The day also saw a hike in trading volume, with SJC trading total 10,000 taels, double the volume on previous days.
 
The global gold price topped US$1,284 an ounce.
