Hanoi sees increase in CPI in August

The Hanoi Capital's Statistics Office on August 21 announced an increase of 3.16 percent in Consumer Price Index (CPI) in August, which was 1.5 times higher than last seven months and 2.5 times higher than in February.

The City CPI surged due to hike in healthcare services, but if excluding this factor, CPI only rose 0.59 percent in August.

Some other commodities and service groups also climbed sharply over the previous month, including transport with 1.23 percent, housing and building materials with 0.95 percent, and restaurants and catering services with 0.78 percent.

Therefore, Hanoi’s CPI soared 8.7 percent compared to August last year and 5.19 percent compared to January this year.
