Industrial production index shows increase in first two months

The industrial production figure of Vietnam in February edged down by 21.3 percent but showed an increase in first two months, according to the General Statistics Office.

Industrial production index in February also slumped by 10 percent against the same period last year or during Tet. However, industrial production figure in the first two months increased by 6.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

For instance, electricity production and distribution increased by 11.7 percent, same as last year; processing and manufacturing edged up 7.9 percent, a year-on-year increase of 6.7 percent; mining leaped by 1.8 percent, a year-on-year increase of 7.7 percent.

Industrial production figure in the first two months of the year hiked by 3.2 percent in Ho Chi Minh City; in the southern province of Dong Nai and Binh Duong it soared by 7.6 percent and 3.7 percent respectively; in Hanoi it rose by 4.5 percent; and in the northern provinces of Hai Phong, Bac Ninh and Vinh Phuc by 2.9 percent, 10.2 percent and 11.5 percent, respectively.

The General Statistics Office also announced the total number of tourists to Vietnam reached 1.2 million in two first months, down 9.6 percent compared to the same period last year. The number of tourists decreased by 8 percent; and the number of people coming in for work by 8.4 percent.
