Lord Mayor of the City of London to visit Vietnam

The British Embassy announced on March 17 of the impending visit of Mr. Alderman Michael Bear, the Lord Mayor of the City of London to Vietnam next week.

The Lord Mayor will visit Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City between 19 -24 March 2011 and will meet with the Vietnamese Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam and other members of the business community.

The Lord Mayor comes as Britain’s ambassador to discuss with local governments and business people of Vietnam, for more innovative solutions for capital mobilisation and infrastructure development in the country.

The Lord Mayor will also deliver a speech at the Foreign Trade University on march 21, highlighting the huge opportunities for Vietnamese companies, especially SOEs, to enter the international capital market via the London Stock Exchange.

The Lord Mayor will also call on the Chairmen of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committees, where he will discuss the development of both the cities as financial and trade centres and the need for a distinctive role in financial services between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The Lord Mayor will be accompanied by a U.K. business delegation. His visit to Vietnam is part of his Far East trip (March 12 - 24) which includes Malaysia, Taiwan and Vietnam.
