Maritime center rescues three foreign crew members from drifting barge at sea

Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center yesterday said that it had found a barge with three Indonesian nationals on board at sea after many hours the barge lost contact and ran adrift at sea.

The barge towed by a pusher was on its way from Vietnam’s Can Tho city to Thailand. When reaching Dinh An estuary, the towrope was broken by strong winds. Three crewmembers from the towboat moved to the barge to repair the rope but bad weather and rough sea afterwards caused the barge drift out to sea and missing.

The three men did not bring wear life-jackets or communication devices at that time.

Right after receiving the information, the center announced all boats operating in the area about the missing barge and sent SAR 413 vessel from Vung Tau city to the incident site.

Ultimately, the vessel spotted the barge six nautical miles from the scene at Tranh De estuary in Soc Trang province and rescued the three Indonesians successfully.
