Five million tons of rice is planned to export in 2006, according to the memo by Standing Deputy Minister Nguyen Tien Dung to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Trade.

The decision is based on the Food Production and Balance Plan in 2006 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. “The processes and plans of rice export this year have to be devised, operated carefully and  ensure sustainable national food security”, noted the Deputy Minister.

The Ministry of Trade, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Viet Nam Food Association, directs the rice export enterprises to buy rice from the farmers at reasonable prices. Besides, the businesses have to take the initiative in negotiating and signing export contracts.
