The region has seen the highest increase in the export price of rice in the past ten years. Peaking at over US$267 per ton, the current rate marks an annual increase of 1.2 percent.
The growing price should mark a steady revenue increase for Viet Nam; however, there is concern that rice supplies may have been depleted due to the flood and other seasonal dilemmas.
Experts warn that although the price will go up, when the demand surpasses the supply a price increase will occur, which may trickle all the way down to the farmers.
