Price of Aquatic Foods to Increase Rapidly

Aquatic foods’ prices will increase on April.

According to the Ministry of Aquaculture, consumers today prefer aquatic products to others because the bird flu is spreading over the world. Therefore, aquatic food prices are expected to increase in April.

Meanwhile, raw shrimp in Mekong Delta is still in shortage, causing many enterprises’ output to be reduced by half, and a lot of export orders to be cancelled

Currently, raw shrimp’s price has gone up to VND30,000 - 40,000 per kilogram. Particularly, the price of 20 prawn-per-kilogram category has increased to VND160,000, and 30-per-kilogram VND115,000 per kilogram.

Prices of tra and basa catfish are VND13,500 – 13,800 per kilogram, an increase of VND2,000 to 2,500 per kilogram from January, 2006.

However, it is anticipated that price of aquatic products will lightly decrease in April due to end-of- season sale.
