Samsung to build thermal power plant in north central

The South Korean Samsung C&T Corporation and the Ministry of Industry and Trade on October 14 signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on construction of Vung Ang 3 Thermal Power Plant in Ky Anh District, Ha Tinh Province.

According to the MoU, the group will complete a pre-feasibility study report by February next year and start construction of the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) project at Vung Ang Economic Zone by February 2018.

The 1,200MW plant will use import coal and meet environmental norms by Vietnam and the International Finance Corporation. It is expected to generate commercial electricity in 2022-2025.

Vung Ang 1 and 2 Thermal Power Plants have been built by the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group and the Japanese Group Mitshubisi.

The Vung Ang 3 will increase the complex’s total capacity to 3,600 MW, contributing to ensure national energy security.
