Seafood export breaks record with $9 billion

Seafood export turnover this year moves up 8.4 percent over 2017 to approximate US$9 billion, the highest level ever.
That was reported at a meeting by the Directorate of Fisheries under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on December 24.
Specifically, pangasius export turnover reaches $2.26 billion, up 26.4 percent while shrimp hits $3.58 billion, down 7.1 percent. Farming area increases 3.3 percent over 2017 to reach 5,400 hectares while output hikes 8.4 percent to 1.42 million.
Tuna export turnover moves up 13.9 percent to $675 million, other fish up 15.5 percent to $1.52 billion, molluscous up 9.1 percent to $785 million and crustaceans up 23 percent to $145 million.
The seafood industry has set a target of 7.9 million tons seafood in 2019 including 3.6 million tons of fishing products and 4.3 million tons of farmed products. Export turnover will increase to US$10 billion.
