Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index reversed previous loss on July 30 thanks to support from blue-chip stocks but liquidity remained low, concerning many investors.
Shares of 303 companies and six mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange regained 0.45 percent, or 1.84 points, to close at 415 points.
Among the index members, 98 climbed, 127 dropped, while 84 remained unchanged.
Trading on the city bourse dropped by 30 percent in volume, and by 25.5 percent in value over the previous trading session as more than 26.69 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND461.76 billion.
Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) was the most active share in volume with 4.12 million shares changing hands.
Tan Tao Investment Industrial Joint Stock Company (ITA) followed with 1.19 million shares.
Ocean Group Joint Stock Company (OGC) was the third runner-up with 1.1 million shares traded.
Everpia Vietnam Joint Stock Company (EVE) capped its five-day losing streak, winning 5 percent to close at VND21,000.
Khang An Investment Real Estate Joint Stock Company (KAC) built up 4.88 percent to close at VND12,900.
Traphaco Joint Stock Company (TRA) rallied 4.83 percent to close at VND76,000.
Ben Tre Aqua Product Import and Export Joint Stock Company (ABT) and Alphanam Joint Stock Company (ALP) fell 5 percent to close at VND39,900, and VND7,600 respectively.
Binh Chanh Construction Investment Shareholding Company (BCI) collapsed 4.9 percent to close at VND19,400.
Rang Dong Light Source and Vacuum Flask Joint Stock Company (RAL) lost 4.84 percent to close at VND29,500.
The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – rebounded 2.68 points, or 0.55 percent, to end at 492.29. Among its 30 members, 9 stocks rallied, 12 weakened, and 9 remained unmoved.
Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north reclaimed 0.14 percent, or 0.1 points, to close at 69.45 points with 92 winners, 104 losers, and 76 stocks treading water. Around 25.11 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND248.3 billion.
HNX 30 Index - the price index of top 30 stocks calculated based on free float adjusted market capitalization – ticked up 0.02 percent, or 0.02 points, to finish at 131.58 points.
Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares curtailed 0.08 percent, or 0.03 points, to close at 36.98 points. A total of 215,000 shares changed hands at VND1.24 billion.
