VN-Index sinks to five-month low

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index declined the second day to near a five-month low on July 10 as both sell-side and buy-side hesitated.

The gauge of 302 companies and six mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange contracted 0.67 percent, or 2.73 points, to close at 405.39 points.

On the benchmark, 84 stocks advanced, 149 retreated, while 75 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse fell by 10 percent in volume, but rose by 6.63 percent in value over the previous trading session as more than 28.74 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND474.01 billion.

Transport Engineering Construction & Business Investment Joint Stock Company 584 (NTB) was crowned as most active share in volume with 1.61 million shares changing hands.

Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) took second rank with nearly 1.03 million shares.

Kinh Bac City Development Share Holding Corporation (KBC) was after with 1.02 million shares traded.

HUD1 Investment & Construction Joint Stock Company (HU1) slashed 14.63 percent to close at VND10,500.

Ben Thanh Trading & Service Joint Stock Company (BTT) threw away 4.98 percent to close at VND21,000.

Tay Ninh Rubber Joint Stock Company (TRC) eliminated 4.93 percent to close at VND38,600.

Lu Gia Mechanical Electric Joint Stock Company (LGC) rebounded 5 percent to close at VND16,800.

Thu Duc Water Supply Joint Stock Company (TDW) surged 4.94 percent to close at VND17,000.

Hydro Power Joint Stock Company – Power No.3 (DRL) resurrected 4.87 percent to close at VND23,700.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – cropped 2.91 points, or 0.6 percent, to end at 479.58. Among its 30 members, 3 stocks gained, 19 lost, and 8 remained unmoved.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north abandoned 0.45 percent, or 0.31 points, to close at 67.89 points with 99 winners, 105 losers, and 65 stocks treading water. Around 23.14 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND220.9 billion.

HNX 30 Index - the price index of top 30 stocks calculated based on free float adjusted market capitalization – dropped 0.69 percent, or 0.87 points, to finish at 126.46 points.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares adjusted 0.27 percent, or 0.1 points, to close at 36.55 points. A total of 586,199 shares changed hands at VND5.16 billion.
