Vietnam sees high revenue of imported mobile phones, spare parts

Import revenue of mobile phones and accessories reached more than US $1.2 billion in the first two months this year.

This is an increase of 8.49 percent compared to the same period last year, according to Vietnam Customs.

China is the biggest import market with a total turnover of US $814 million, an increase of 8.08 percent compared to the same period last year.

The two second largest markets are South Korea, with an increase of 8.97 percent at US$364 million, and Taiwan with an increase of 13.4 percent compared to the same period last year.

In 2013, Vietnam imported Chinese mobile phones and spare parts at US$5.69 billion worth, an increase of 66.34 percent since the same period last year.

Ninety nine percent of precious stones and jewelry imported in two first months this year are from China, South Korea and Taiwan (China).

The country is very dependent on imported material because the domestic supporting industry is a bit weak. Processing supplies and assembling parts account for high proportion in imported commodity revenues.
