Vietnam wins rice export contract to Philippines

Vietnam has won a contract to sell 800,000 tones of rice to the Philippines , the Vietnam Food Association said on April 15.

The rice will be shipped to the country, which was hit severely by super-typhoon Haiyan last November, from May to August.

The association predicts that with this contract, the price of the grain in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam’s largest granary, will increase significantly.

By April 13, Vietnamese businesses had won contracts for 2.7 million tones of rice, of which 1.4 million tones had been exported.
