Vietnamese enterprises invest $2.12 billion in overseas projects

Vietnamese enterprises have invested in 75 new projects and adjusted investment capital for 33 projects across the globe, amounting to a total of US$2.12 billion in 2011.

New outbound investments will focus on large-scale projects in the energy and communication sectors.

Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petro Vietnam) was leading with $347 million, followed by mobile service provider Viettel with $185 million.

Other top investors were Song Da Corporation ($161 million), Vietnam Rubber Group ($134.6 million), Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group ($39 million) and Green Indochina Development JSC ($23.7 million).

Some large-scale projects include the Se San 2 hydropower plant in Cambodia with investments of $806 million; Viettel telecom project in Peru worth $408 million; the Sekong 3 hydropower project in Sekong Province in Laos worth $275.2 million and the Nam Cong 2 & 3 project in Laos worth $134.5 million.

So far, Vietnam has committed to a total of $10.8 billion in investments in 627 projects in 55 countries around the world.
