Vietnam’s rice exports exceed expectations

According to the Vietnam Food Association, by mid-November this year Vietnam had exported 6.73 million tons of rice worth US$3.067 billion.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, during the first quarter of 2012, Vietnam's rice exports ran into difficulty and fell by 45 percent over the same period last year.

So far however, rice exports have exceeded expectations.

Rice production in 2012 is estimated at 42.5-42.8 million tons, up by 1 million tons from 2011. As a result, the total rice exports in 2012 may reach 7.5-7.7 million tons.
