Duong ve (The way home) by director Luc Dai Luong of the Tay ethnic minority won the golden kite award of the film festival “Kites for Vietnamese short films 2006”, organized by the Viet Nam Cinematography Association at the Tan Son Nhat Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City on December 15.

Director Luc Dai Luong is now working in the TV station of the northern mountainous province of Bac Kan. At the award ceremony, he hoped to have more support for more films presenting ethnic minorities’ life.
The festival, attracting 53 short films, including 42 features, 10 documentaries and one cartoon, has encouraged young talented directors and contributed in the development of the Vietnamese cinema, said Professor Tran Luan Kim, Ph.D.
The other prizes were offered to:
Silver Kite: Nhung doi dep chuoi (Sandals made of banana tree’s skin), by Huynh Thi Ngoc Tam, 21, student of Ho Chi Minh City Cinema and Theater College; and Trai tim bac (Silver heart) by Nguyen Hong Chi.
Consolation prize: Toi chi can co the (That’s all I want) by Vo Thach Thao; and Le loi (Flicker) by Huynh Thanh Sy.
The best documentary: Chuyen ong Mo (Mr. Mo’s story) by Luong Dinh Dung; and Ta con gui lua trong than (Still burning coal) by Nguyen Cong Tinh.
