2009 National Theater Festival Ends

HCMC Opera House was drenched with a rain of awards in the closing ceremony of the 2009 National Theater Festival on October 7.

Three gold medals were given to plays My nhan va anh hung (Beauty and Hero) scripted by Chu Thom and directed by People's Artist Le Hung of the Vietnam Drama Theater; Me va nguoi tinh (Mother and her lover) by Le Chi Trung and Minh Nhi and No Than (Magic crossbow of The legend of My Chau and Trong Thuy) by Le Duy Hanh and Do Duc Thinh of Phu Nhuan Theater of the Van Tuan Entertainment Joint Stock Company.

The Hanoi-based Youth Theater’s play titled Kieu Loan (name of a beautiful woman) directed by Meritorious Artist Anh Tu; Ngan nam tinh su (Thousand-Year Love History) by Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc of Idecaf Theater of the Thai Duong Theater Arts Company, featuring the life of Ly Thuong Kiet, a famous 12th century general in the Ly dynasty; and Bien (Sea) by Tran Ngoc Giau of the 5B Vo Van Tan mini-theater won the creative awards.

The organization board also gave seven silver medals to other plays, 42 gold medals and 63 silver medals to artistes.

Five special individual awards were granted to painter Hong Van, directors Duc Thinh and Hanh Thuy, musicians Duc Tri and Hanh Nhan.

The festival kicked off from September 26 to October 6 in HCMC  with attendance of 18 State-owned and private theaters and 600 artistes , featuring 27 dramas was held by the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism’s Performing Arts Department and the city’s Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism.
