300 old photos of Vietnam-Japan int'l maritime trade routes exhibited in Hanoi

A photo collection presenting Japan in the 19th Century will open to the public at Flickr Coffee  in Hanoi on February 24.

The event displays over 300 old photos telling the story of international maritime trade routes in 1880-1897 from the port of Haiphong (Vietnam) to the Japanese harbors; Japanese people and landscapes.

The photos that were being forgotten for over a century were taken by French artist-photographer Louis-Jules Dumoulin (1860-1924).

Architect-collector Bac Doan has discovered, restored and recompiled all these precious photos. He has held several exhibitions and presentation on Vietnam’s ancient photo since 2010 till date. But this is the first event about the Japanese old photos that were captured by the French during the 19th century.
