Participants came from nine small hamlets and villages in and around Kon Tum City and Sa Thay District.

Each of the 44 canoes was rowed by two local young men, who spared no efforts as they raced 3,000 metres to the finishing line.

A Krai and A Blouh from Sa Thay District won the first prize in the individual event and the team from Sa Thay District secured the title for the team event.

The dug-out canoe race is a unique sporting event in the province, held every year on the occasion of Tet Lunar New Year.

The event was also a good opportunity for people in the province to come together and launch a movement to protect the environment along the Dak Bla River.
