Bizet’s Carmen performed at HCMC Opera House

The famous opera Carmen will be performed by the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) at the municipal Opera House on November 8-9.

Georges Bizet’s classic Spanish love story Carmen is one of the most famous, successful and most operas in the world’s musical history.

The performance under the baton of French Maestro Patrick Souillot features French opera artists Sophie Leleu and Olivier Trommenschalager in the roles of Carmen and Don Jose, respectively.

Artists of HBSO including  Meritorious Artist Tran Hong Vy, Cho Hae Ryong, Pham Duyen Huyen, Pham Khanh Ngoc, Nguyen Thu Huong, Vo Nguyen Thanh Tam, Dao Mac, Phan Huu Trung Kiet and children's choir.

This year, 2015 marks the 140th anniversary of the Carmen’s debut and 140th death anniversary of Georges Bizet. The composer passed away 3 months after the debut of Carmen.

The epic story is about beautiful but fiery gypsy girl Carmen, who finds herself in the midst of a love triangle between her boyfriend Don Jose, an army soldier, and bullfighter Escamillo.

The work has enjoyed a great number of productions around the world and inspired other works such as ballet, film, and music.

Tickets are priced at VND150, 000- VND800, 000.
