Ceremony marks 100 years of famous cai luong song held in Bac Lieu

A ceremony celebrating 100 years of famous cai luong song titled Da Co Hoai Lang (Awaiting One's Husband at midnight) is held in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu from September 20-23.

The event also marks the 8th Vietnam Stage Day on the 12th day of the eighth lunar month and  traditional day commemorating the anniversary of the ancestor of cai luong and stage (on the 11th day of the eighth lunar month).
A series of cultural activities will be held during the 4-day long event, such as an incense offering to musician Cao Van Lau, Don Ca Tai Tu (southern amateur traditional music) contest, an exchange on Don Ca Tai Tu and Bac Ninh folk songs which have been recognized by the UNESCO as intangible cultural heritages of humanity.
"Da co hoai lang" is an immortal Cai Luong piece written by musician Cao Van Lau in 1919 which tells the story of a wife who waits for her husband to return from the battlefield. The song never fails to leave a deep impression on millions of devotees.
