City celebrates 70th anniversary of Southern Revolutionary Movies

A ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of Southern Revolutionary Movies was held in Ho Chi Minh City by the municipal Cinematography Association on October 15.

The ceremony was attended by former Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Le Thanh Hai, former Vice Standing Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Van Dua, former Deputy Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee Pham Phuong Thao, and head of HCMC Department of Propaganda and Education Than Thi Thu.
Vice Chairwoman of Vietnam Cinema Association Duong Cam Thuy expressed her deep gratitude to founders of the Southern Revolutionary Movies who made great contribution to the industry and making invaluable documentary films, such as Mai Loc, Tran Kiem, Nguyen The Doan, Khuong Me, Tran Nhu, Tuyet Trinh, Vu Son, An Son and more.
On October 15, 1947, the Southern Cinematography and Photography Branch was established by the Command of the Military Zone 8 in the Dong Thap Muoi region (the area stretching over three provinces in the Mekong Delta, Long An, Tien Giang and Dong Thap) to capture the life and fight of soldiers and people on celluloid. The first film of the Southern Cinematography and Photography Branch was the documentary, Tran Moc Hoa (Moc Hoa Battle) by director and cinematographer Khuong Me which was released in December, 1948.
On this occasion, an photo exhibition featuring nearly 100 photos of filmmaking and veteran artists of the Command of the Military Zone 8 was launched also.
