"Him Lam Memories" - a story of the Dien Bien Phu soldiers who are still alive

Already 59 years have passed since the world famous great victory of Dien Bien Phu, on Apr 21, the former soldiers who took part in the glorious battle met each other once again.

The meeting was held at the Opera House, Hanoi on the occasion a book titled " Him Lam Memories " was published.

The veterans recalled the heartwarming memories in the days of "lying underground, eating little" in the military rushing movement of the soldiers at Dien Bien Phu battle.

While the comrades in arms met, the memories of the arduous but heroic years were still as clear as if they happened yesterday.

The veterans of the former East Front Division at the meeting in the morning of Apr 21.

Those familiar places such as Muong Thanh, Hong Cum, Him Lam ... helped the soldiers not only recall the beautiful landscape of North West frontier of Vietnam but also awake the time hidden memories of the heroic hardship they suffered.

At the meeting, the Dien Bien Phu veterans together reviewed memories of comrade Le Nam who directed the final attack on the Him Lam entrenched headquarter o the French enemy.

The year 2013 was also the 90th anniversary of Le Nam’s birth.

Martyr Le Nam’s real name is Tran Ngoc Que, born in Truong Son commune, Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province.

In the resistance war against the American invasion, in 1967, the ex-soldier of Dien Bien Phu battle Le Nam fought in the battle of the “Route 9 - Khe Sanh” military campaign.

At that time he was holding the post of political commissionaire of the General Command and Head officer of Political Propaganda of the Front Command.

He died in a heroic battle when US enemy aircraft B52 bombed right at the Front Command headquarter.
