New Year charity concert to raise funds

A concert will be held this evening to welcome the New Year and raise money for the disadvantaged during the Tet holiday.

The Noi Vong Tay Lon show, organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Vietnam Television, aims to honor individuals, organizations and enterprises that have donated hundreds of billions of VND to support disadvantaged people.

Some of those honored will be non-governmental and religious organizations, who have contributed more than VND100 billion (US$5.7 million).

There will be an auction of a sculpture, by the artist Nguyen Tan Thinh, and a cup, created by Huy Thanh Gold, Silver & Gemstone Company, said Mr Vu Trong Kim, deputy chairman and secretary-general of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Father Land Front.

The Central Committee of the Vietnam Father Land Front, over 8 years, has raised more than VND2,600 billion ($150 million) from the annual gala and other activities in aid of the poor and build houses for disadvantaged people, the Chairman, Huynh Dam, said.

The concert will open with a song, Hoa nhip con tim (Heart harmony), composed by musician Huy Tuan. Its message is about HIV/AIDS prevention and performed by the children’s orchestra of Ba Dinh District’s Cutural House and all concert singers.

The concert will be broadcast live on Vietnam TV’s VTV3 channel at 8 pm.
