Vietnam Film Festival 2013 opens

The 18th Vietnam Film Festival opened at Tuan Chau Tourist Area in the northern province of Quang Ninh on October 14.

Hoang Tuan Anh, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Tran Binh Minh, General Director of Vietnam Television, and a host of artists from across the country participated in the opening ceremony of the Film Festival.

This year’s event themed ‘Vietnam’s Cinematography: Nation, Humanity, Creativity, Integration’ welcomed about 300 artists and 139 cinematographic submissions, including 29 featured films and 110 movies in categories of documentary, cartoon, and science.

A series of activities such as a seminar on movies, film market, a gala evening and exchanges between filmmakers and audiences will take place during the festival.

People’s Artist Dao Ba Son, head the jury for the featured film prize said that one-third of the movies have good quality content and attractive subjects on soldiers and nation.

However, there will also be films that were made carelessly and focused on exploiting violence and cruelty, he added.

The organizers will present the Golden Lotus, Silver Lotus and the Jury Prizes for titles such as Best Director, Best Screenwriter, Best Filmmaker, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Art Designer, Best Music Designer, and Best Sound Designer.

The red carpet is expected to receive hundreds of visitors, including well-known foreign artists from South Korea and France.

The closing ceremony will be broadcast live on VTV Channel on October 17.
