Vietnamese Prince Laid to Rest

The family of Prince Nguyen Phuoc Vinh Giu, the 7th son of King Thanh Thai and nephew of King Duy Tan, yesterday gathered at his bedside to bid farewell at Hospital 121 in the province of Can Tho. The 85-year-old former prince is reported to have died from a lung abscess.

“The funeral will be held on March 19 at his house in the Phu An Urban Zone. His body will be cremated at the Phat Hoc Pagoda in Can Tho Province on Tuesday, March 20. His ashes will then be buried at the An Lang Royal Cemetery in Hue Province” Nguyen Phuoc Bao Boi, the prince’s eldest son, told the Sai Gon Giai Phong yesterday.

Prince Nguyen Phuoc Vinh Giu was born on March 22, 1922.

Prince Vinh Giu married Ly Ngoc Hoa and moved from Vung Tau to Can Tho, Hoa’s hometown.

“Former Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet visited my father in 2003. Sympathizing with his situation, the former Prime Minister asked the provincial government to help my family buy a two-floor house on an installment plan” Mr. Bao Boi recounted.
