24,000 students sit International Kangaroo Mathematics Contest

More than 24,000 students from 870 primary and secondary schools of 41 cities and provinces entered the 2019 International Kangaroo Mathematics Contest (IKMC) on March 17.

The contest including four different levels of difficulties was organized for first to eight graders.
Tests made up of multiple choice questions (in English) are designed by Kangaroo Mathematics Association.
However, test-takers can sit for English – Vietnamese bilingual tests, which aimed to help the competitors to enrich their foreign language and familiarize themselves with the upcoming national high school exam’s format.
Firstly held in 1991, the contest has spread to 20 countries a few years later and now has had the greatest number of contestants worldwide. It attracts more than 6 million candidates from 70 countries and territories yearly.
Innovative Education Group (IEG) and the University of Education under Ha Noi National University jointly organized the first Math Kangaroo competition in Vietnam in 2016, attracting 6,000 participants.
