250 scholarships given to good, poor students in Can Tho

The Studying Encouraging Association in the Mekong delta City of Can Tho today organized a ceremony to present 250 scholarships to disadvantaged excellent students in 9 districts with the participation of leaders of the city Party, the People’s Committee , agencies and teachers, students.

Scholarship recipients are twelfth graders who are going to take graduation test; each received cash worth VND1 million ($42.7).
The scholarship aims to encourage them to study hard for the upcoming important examination.
One of scholarship recipient, Vo Thi Kim Uyen of Phan Van Tri Senior High School said the scholarship gave impetus for students from low-income families like me sending her thank-you to benefactors contributing to the Association’s fund,
Also at the scholarship-giving ceremony, the Association received VND1.9 billion from 35 organizations and individuals to support its fund.
On behalf of the government in Can Tho, Deputy Chairwoman of Can Tho People’s Committee Vo Thi Hong Anh praised organizations and Individuals that contributed to the Association’s fund to assist needy student in the pursuit of learning.
For years, thanks to the support of society, the rate of drop-outs reduced by 0.4 percent in the school year 2017 - 2018. However, still many students at risk of dropping school need a helping hand.
City authorities called for contributions to help good but poor learners.
Statistically, in 12 recent years , the city has appealed nearly VND300 billion and presented nearly 1 million scholarships to students.
