Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper in collaboration with Prudential Life Insurance Company organized an award ceremony of the 2015 Prudential Good Essay, Good Writing Contest at Minh Duc High school on October 18 to honor 28 best students who took part in this year’s contest in Ho Chi Minh City’s region. Attending in the ceremony were Vice Director of Department of Home Affairs Do Van Dao, Deputy Director of HCMC Department of Education and Training Le Hoai Nam, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper Ly Viet Trung, Vice General Director of commercial transaction and Prudential Life Insurance Company in Vietnam Mrs. Nguyen Thi Giang, and crowded teachers and students.
On behalf of the organizers, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper Ly Viet Trung said: “The Contest was launched since 2000 in Ho Chi Minh City and in 2004, it was expanded in Mekong Delta region and has attracted over 150, 000 students from secondary schools in city yearly. In Mekong Delta region, around 300, 000 students have registered to join in the writing essay contest so far”.
This year is the 12th as well as the 16th Prudential Good Essay, Good Writing Contest held in the Mekong Delta region and Ho Chi Minh City respectively, added Mrs. Ly Viet Trung.
As per Decision 1419/QĐ of the HCMC People’s Committee, the first, second and third winning students in this year’s city- level contest would be added marks in entrance examinations for high schools.
After the final round closed, the organizers selected 28 of the best students. Accordingly, Trinh Ngoc My from Luong The Vinh Secondary School won the first prize in the 6th-7th grade student category. And, Nguyen Duc Minh from Hoa Lu Secondary School won the first prize in the 8th-9th grade student category.
Earlier, 144 best students were selected from 1, 704 contestants of 284 secondary schools in 24 city’s districts who yesterday participated in the final round.
The organization board issued opening topic for the 6th-7th and the 8th – 9th grade student categories and selected 28 best students to award.
The annual Prudential-Good Essay, Good Writing Contest is co- organized by Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper and Prudential Life Insurance Company in Vietnam and launched for secondary school students, aiming to encourage them in studying of literature, developing good handwriting, good essay writing skills.
