City schools to have native English teachers

Ho Chi Minh City intends to appoint native English teachers in schools across the city in a pilot program next month, to improve English skills for primary and junior high school students, said Le Hong Son, director of HCMC Department of Education and Training.

The City has entrusted the task to a placement company to recruit 100 Filipino teachers whose major is English for teaching in select schools in Districts chosen by the Department of Education and Training.

The native English teacher will conduct 35 classes per week, in which 20 classes will be for teaching and the rest for extracurricular activities. Their set salary will be US$2,000 per month.

On October 30, the HCMC Department of Education and Training held a meeting with primary and junior high schools to discuss the implementation of the pilot program.
