HCMC expands teaching maths, science in English

In a bid to improve English skill amongst Vietnamese students, education managers in Ho Chi Minh have decided to expand Content and Language Integrated Learning program in many primary, secondary schools and senior high schools.

Content and Language Integrated Learning program refer to teaching subjects such as science, maths and science subjects in English. In the new academic school 2017-2018, the city is planning to recruit teachers for four senior high schools.

After two-year learning maths and science subjects in English, most students of primary schools and secondary schools are interested in the program meanwhile headmasters said that teachers are professional who deliver advanced program; accordingly, students showed their eagerness to learning.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Huong, Principal of Primary school Lac Long Quan in district 11 said that students are confident and active while learning the program; they can talk to teachers and participate in lessons amazingly.
In addition, they are encouraged to conduct experiments to remember deeply. Devoted foreign teachers with direct methodologies offered interest amongst students.

Parents totally believe in the program because their children are becoming more confident in speaking English. The Department Of Education and Training in HCMC said that the program is being carried out in 400 primary and junior schools with 12,000 students.

To meet increased demand of senior high students who wish to pursue the program in schools, the Department allowed four senior high schools including Le Hong Phong high school for gifted students, Tran Dai Nghia high school for gifted students, Gia Dinh and Trung Vuong to admit students for the program in the academic year 2017-2018.

Lately, the education authority has signed agreement with EMG Education to officially implement standardized test prep ACT which is one of leading tests recognized in universities in the US and over 200 colleges and higher education facilities in different nations such as British, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.
