My Hue Primary School starts Earth Hour 2014 project

My Hue Primary School in Hoc Mon District, HCMC implemented a project “Buying Green Products, Building Ecological Schools” to use sustainable building practices on March 20.

The school replaced old corrugated iron roofs with 187 new sheets made from 1.5 million recycled milk cartons.

The project is part of the Earth Hour 2014 Campaign to raise awareness of ecological issues.

Earth Hour 2014 is organized annually in the world to encourage households and businesses to turn off lights and electric appliances on the last Saturday of March, said Nguyen Thanh Loi, deputy in chief of Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper at the inauguration ceremony of new classrooms in My Hue Primary School.

The newspaper and trading cooperatives, the Department of Industry and Trade, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and Youth Communist Union have implemented many projects including clean residential blocks and a bicycle parade around streets in downtown areas.

These activities supporting Earth Hour has attracted thousands of volunteers.
