Publishing Association launches children book project

The Ho Chi Minh City branch of Vietnam Publishing Association introduced a book project for elementary students on December 13.

The project was set up in October 2016 from a letter of former teacher Hoang Thi Thu Hien of the Quoc Hoc Hue high school and Le Hong Phong high school for the gifted students to Education Minister Phung Xuan Nha in May, 2016.
In addition to develop reading culture amongst people in the community starting with elementary students, the project orients to contribute to the country’s culture growth and help young people living better as a good investment for the future.
After two years, the project has given 228,730 books and magazines to 795 primary schools in 41 districts countryside. More noticeably, the project select books for children very carefully.
One of project founder, teacher Hoang Thi Thu Hien, said that life skills are included in the project to help children to have more friends and understand more about Vietnam’s and the world’s history.
Additionally, well-known literature books in the world are expected to read more.
Deputy Head of the Vietnam Publishing Association Le Hoang said that Vietnamese people’s reading rate maintains lower than their peers in the world; accordingly the project is hoped to nourish reading culture to improve the reading rate of Vietnamese people.
He puts all his minds and heart to the project.
However, he also pointed out the project is unprompted deed. Subsequently, whatever books the project collects, it gives to elementary schools without selecting; then, some books are inappropriate for small students.
