Global robotics contest for young developers launched in Vietnam

MakeX Vietnam – Robotics Competition 2019, which was launched in HCMC yesterday, is significant to promote innovation and creativity among teachers and students in the city as well as the whole country, according to Deputy Director of the HCMC Department of Science and Technology Nguyen Khac Thanh.

‘MakeX Vietnam 2019’ is one of the main activities in the 2019 HCMC Innovation, Startup and Entrepreneurship Week (WHISE 2019), he said.

Robotics Competition is the annual global contest, attracting more than 350 teams around the world. The theme of the contest changes each year to apply the latest technologies on robotics and automation to fulfill certain team tasks and alliance missions. These request focus mostly on logical thinking, strategic collaboration, and problem solving skills.

With the theme ‘The City Guardian’, ’MakeX Vietnam 2019’ challenges participants to program their robots to tackle urban pollution. It is hoped that these contestants are able to exercise obtained theoretical knowledge in addressing realistic issues in life while gaining the team working skill and creative thinking.

The competition lasts from October 18 to 19, 2019. It consists of three rounds and is supposed to attract over 50 teams from primary and secondary schools in HCMC.

In Vietnam, the STEAM model (Science – Technology – Engineering – Arts – Mathematics) is gradually gaining more attention among schools in large cities. The contest ‘MakeX Vietnam 2019’ is expected to foster interdisciplinary education, especially STEAM, for young students from 6 to 15 years old.
