According to Dr. Le Van Dat, details of the meeting will be released to the media soon after.

Tu was taken by her husband to the Thoi Lai General Hospital for a clinical examination. Doctors at the hospital said that her kidney had failed and that she needed surgery and should be moved to the Can Tho General Hospital for an operation.

At Can Tho General Hospital, doctors said that Tu’s right kidney was functioning properly but her left kidney had failed and needed to be removed.

However, soon after the surgery, Tu’s husband noticed his wife’s health was still not good and decided to take her for an ultrasound test. He was shocked to discover that both her kidneys had been removed and he immediately rushed her to an intensive care unit.

After undergoing 6 hours of dialysis treatment last Sunday, Tu could drink milk, have rice porridge and was able to speak with her   children and relatives. Her body is also less bloated than before.

Nguyen Van Nghia, Party Committee Secretary from Thoi Lai town in the Mekong delta city of Can Tho toured the hospital on December 11 and called for social support for the poor woman.

Nghia said local authorities will look after her three children, and expect that society will contribute towards her poor family.

Thoi Lai district and Thoi Lai town leaders gave VND2 million (nearly US$100) to Tu as a first support. The hospital management board and the Trade Union offered a further VND2 million.
