3 million Vietnam children wear glasses due to eye disease

It is estimated that the rate of children with refraction error who must wear glasses is around 3 million.

The proportion was released at two meetings held by Vietnam Ophthalmological Society and the Central Eye Hospital in Hanoi on October 30 in Buon Ma Thuot Town of the highlands province of Dak Lak.

Around 15 to 40 percent of the country’s populations suffer refraction error, according to reports at the meetings. The rate of blind people accounts for 3.1 percent and more than 409,000 people aged over 50 is blind in both eyes.

In 2013, nearly 200,000 people with cataract disease and other eye problems have been operated.

The eye sector aims to reduce the rate of blind people aged over 50 to 2.35 percent in 2019 and the sector can control cataract patients. 8-9 eye centers for treating eye problems for children will be set up in upcoming times.
