34 workers at Smart Elegan textile factory in Ho Chi Minh City’s Hoc Mon District fainted en masse on May 15 in what authorities suspect was a gas poisoning.
Dr. Nguyen Manh Bao, the hospital’s deputy director, said that 34 workers were admitted to the hospital’s emergency ward with symptoms including headaches, numb limbs, and dizziness. However, test result showed that they were not poisoned by food.
Workers said a foul smell prior to feeling dizzy and then nauseated.
Informed the incident, medical workers of Hoc Mon General Hospital were ready to treat the victims.
By the afternoon of the same day, most workers had regained consciousness and been stable, Dr. Bao said.
