60% heart patients come to hospital late: experts

Most people with heart problem come to hospital for treatment late, said Dr. Pham Manh Hung, General Secretary of Vietnam Heart Association at the National Congress of Cardiology held in the northern province of Ninh Binh on November 8.

More people are suffering heart diseases nowadays. However, by statistics of the Vietnam Heart Association, nearly 2 percent of people with symptoms of heart go to hospital at early stage for treatment.

Moreover, only 40 percent of people suffering myocardial infarction come to medical clinics within 12 hours since they have pain in chest. 60 percent of them come to hospital late; as a result, doctors’ efforts to save them are unrewarded or they suffer heart failure; accordingly their life quality reduced.

Scientific researches showed that it is deal that patients must be hospitalized within 2 hours after suffering pain in chest; yet it is difficult to do in the condition in Vietnam.

On the occasion, the fund for Vietnamese heart health conducted many activities to provide people more understanding of heart disease. A program to walk themed “ For a healthy heart” attracted more than 1,000 participants. The organizer also gave medicine and gifts to 500 needy residents in Ky Phu Commune in Nho Quan District of Ninh Binh Province.
