Bird flu emerges in Ben Tre Province in Mekong Delta

The People’s Committee in Ben Tre Province announced a bird flu outbreak in Cam Son Commune, Mo Cay Nam District.

The flu was prevalent in Tran Van Minh’s farm of 1,500 chickens, according to the Department of Animal Health.

All of my poultry were vaccinated on March 2, said Minh. He lost 200 chickens after giving vaccinations.

Neighboring communes in the district such as Minh Duc, Tan Trung, Ngai Dang, Thanh Thoi A, and Huong My are in the risk of transmission.

The country has reported 40 outbreaks of bird flu in 14 cities and provinces this year.

Bird flu outbreaks have been contained because of authoritative control, according to the Steering Board on Bird Flu Prevention on March 11.

Bird flu outbreaks occurred in flocks of poultry in private farms yet local animal health departments have culled infected poultry and disinfected the environment. Over 50 percent of the outbreak occurred in southern provinces causing a huge loss of poultry production.
