Bird Flu Hits Ca Mau, Quang Nam

The Vietnamese Department of Animal Health has confirmed that bird flu is reemerging in the central province of Quang Nam and the southernmost province of Ca Mau.

In Quang Nam, the epidemic was found in a flock of 200 unvaccinated ducks at a farm in Tam Ky and in another flock of 470 ducks in Nui Thanh district.

In Ca Mau, the authorities reported a bird flu outbreak in Hiep Tung village in Nam Can District. The outbreak was discovered on 16 March, when 30 birds in a 90-strong, white-winged duck flock were killed.

This has brought the total number of bird flu infected provinces and cities to thirteen thus far, namely Ha Noi and the northern provinces of Ha Nam, Phu Tho, Ninh Binh, Quang Ninh, Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai, the central provinces of Quang Tri, Quang Binh and Quang Nam and the southern provinces of Vinh Long, Soc Trang and Ca Mau.
